Travelling to the happiest place on earth

Dear Cipto,

Firstly I would like to thank you for organising such a perfect surprise trip for my mother. The itinerary was customised to our needs in every way. We wanted more cultural exposure, and that was what we experienced and more than what we expected. Our guide Dawa and driver Dorji were cheerful and friendly from day one, they really made us feel at home. We knew that we would be very well taken care of.

I was surprise to see the slogan behind the immigration card (Happiness is a place), it really made me become aware that indeed I am travelling to the happiest place on earth. To be honest, before the trip, I have very little knowledge of this little country perched on the Himalayans. The moment I touched down, I knew that I am in a completely different country which has an unique lifestyle, their strong religious belief and high level of satisfaction really inspired me. Then I came to know more about the royal families as the trip progressed and of course the famous ideal of the 4th King that Gross National Happiness is more important than Gross National Product. This is really noble, how many politicians in the world or governments can truly understand the meaning of this idealism.

The two hotels that we stayed in were very comfortable, especially Umo Paro which was quiet and elegant. Mindu from Druk Asia came to meet and greet us on our last day in Thimphu and we had a great time chatting in a very cool cafe. The highlight of our trip was the Tiger Nest, I was actually scared that I wouldn't be able to make it up. But to my surprise my stamina was better than what I thought, however my calves were really sore after the climb. The experience up there was non-exchangeable and I strongly recommend to everyone who comes to Bhutan to climb it!

As the plane left Bhutan, in my mind I said ka-ding-che Bhutan, I will be back!

Best regards,
Christina Chang
