We very much enjoyed our week in Bhutan

Dear Sangay,

Thanks for your email. We had a week in India after our week in Bhutan so did not get back home until last Thursday evening (6 November).

We very much enjoyed our week in Bhutan. It is a beautiful country and almost unique in our experience because of the very limited development and small number of visitors.

We were generally happy with the accommodation. It wasn't really an issue for us but the rooms in both the Hotel Lobesa and the Metta Resort were showing signs of damp in the walls from the shower. Sadly it appears as though builders in Bhutan haven't learnt yet how to make the floor and wall of a shower cubicle waterproof! The hosts at the home stay could not have tried harder. However, we feel that the lack of running water (and thus the washing and toilet facilities) is a very serious problem for Western visitors. We would not have been able to stay there for more than the one night.

The guide (Sonam) and driver (Dorji) were excellent. Sonam was fluent in English and sounded as though he knew all the history etc. Dorji did more than just acting as our driver - he basically did nearly as much as Sonam except that he had only very limited English.

As regards the itinerary, this was generally good and varied. I would suggest, however, that the Haa valley trip could be reviewed. Although there is some really spectacular scenery, you are limited taking it all in when you are in a vehicle on a bumpy and twisty road. There is not really much to do or see at Haa itself. Therefore I'd suggest that more breaks in the journey/walking in the countryside is required.

Many thanks for arranging the trip for us.

Regards,
Martyn Atkinson
