Druk Asia adopted Laptsakha Community School as for its community involvement project for 2011.

As part of contributing to local community, Druk Asia has chosen to support educational establishments in Bhutan. We identify community schools which we can help to improve their quality of education focus our effort on projects which can provide the most immediate benefits.

Laptsakha Community School is a small community school for the Laptsakha village community near Talo, in Punakha, Bhutan. The school currently has 143 pupils studying in 7 different classes from Kindergarten to Primary 6. To identify feasible projects, Druk Asia spoke with the school's executive community for a list of urgent requirements which can improve the learning environment of the school children. On their recommendation, Druk Asia donated the following items which we identified will deliver the most IMMEDIATE benefit.

a) New Green Boards for all classrooms To have conducive classroom environment, effective teaching and learning. The previous boards were old and outdated. Made from ply board, students could not read writing clearly due to sun reflection and difficulty in keeping it black. It also produces lots of dust in the classroom since the board is rough.

b) Water Filter The school doesn't have proper water source, especially during peak summer season students directly drink water form water tape despite repeated reminder to bring boiled water. The government doesn't have separate allocated budget to procure above mentioned sanitation materials. To ease the problem of preventing primary disease like cold and cough, diarrhoea, dysentery etc.

c) Syntax Water Storage tanks (2000 litres) Due to small existing water source for the school, the school does not have enough water during important celebrations and gatherings. Bigger water tank is also needed to tie over time when water get muddy especially during monsoon season.

Over the years we have also met our many of our travelers who are very compassionate about our causes. In October 2011, a group of our travelers, Mrs Lee Swee Lian, Ms Ho Mee Nyau, Mrs Khoo Teck Yan & Mr Yee Kee Wan travelled to Laptsakha Community School and donated a new library of 5000 books for the children.

We strongly encourage travelers who would like to contribute to the very warm Bhutanese people to consult us should you like to contribute to their community in meaningful ways. We continue to interact with the communities and identify causes to support
